Program overview
Public marketing uses "Proton Partners Program" / affiliate terminology, while the controlling legal architecture defines Affiliate Partner as a category of the Proton Partner Program. "Proton Affiliate Program" is the canonical AffiliateAct representation of that evidenced affiliate arrangement; it must not imply a separate legal program outside the Proton Partner Program.
The 18 September 2024 effective date observed in S5 concerns the Partner Portal privacy notice and must not be converted into a Program launch date.
Do not manufacture a narrower universal product taxonomy from the individual Proton services.
Customer/product availability does not establish publisher target-market eligibility.
Product/site language availability does not establish languages accepted from Affiliate publishers.
Publisher access
Bounded by source. Do not broaden into unsupported universal publisher-content criteria.
No retained evidence establishes unconditional worldwide publisher eligibility. Statements about Proton product availability worldwide or global brand reach concern products/customer availability, not publisher geographic eligibility.
Application identity/contact information does not establish universal government-ID KYC.
The application requests traffic-related information, including monthly visitors. No numerical minimum traffic requirement is established. A requested traffic figure must not be transformed into an eligibility threshold.
No broader universal publisher-content requirement should be synthesized.
Commissions
No universal Program-level commission rate is established. The existence of 30%, 40% and 100% figures does not authorize a synthesized statement such as "30–100% commission". A synthetic commission range is prohibited.
Proton Mail — new 1-month: 30%; new 1/2-year: 30%; renewals: 30%
Proton VPN — new 1-month: 100%; new 1/2-year: 40%; renewals: 30%
Proton Drive — new 1-month: 30%; new 1/2-year: 30%; renewals: 30%
Proton Pass — new 1-month: 30%; new 1/2-year: 30%; renewals: 30%
Lumo — new 1-month: 30%; new 1/2-year: 30%; renewals: 30%
Preserved individually. No synthetic rate or range is authorized.
S1 and S3 must remain separately visible. Do not invent a combined product list with uniform economics.
Qualifying renewal commissions are documented at bounded product/plan/transaction levels with contractual payout-event limits (1-month: max 24 consecutive monthly payout events; 12-month: max 3 consecutive 12-month renewal payout events; 24-month: max 2 consecutive 24-month renewal payout events). "Lifetime recurring" and "unlimited recurring" are prohibited.
No universal Program-level tier architecture is established merely from product-specific rate differences.
Tracking
Partner Portal cookies documented in S5 concern Portal/account operation and must not be represented as Affiliate referral cookies.
Generic TUNE capabilities must not be inherited.
Generic TUNE capabilities must not be inherited.
Generic TUNE capabilities must not be inherited.
Generic TUNE capabilities must not be inherited.
Bounded: unique Partner link and Partner ID mechanics are established. Unrestricted generic deeplinking functionality is not established. Server-to-server tracking remains NOT_ESTABLISHED.
Attribution
Preserve source-specific mechanism. Do not normalize into FIRST CLICK, LAST CLICK or MULTI-TOUCH. Tracking and attribution remain separate factual dimensions.
Payments
A public $100-related threshold is documented in S1, but a universal uncontested Program-level threshold cannot be frozen across the conflicting payment architecture.
Contradictory.
S1 current public statement: direct bank transfer on the 30th of the following calendar month when amount exceeds USD 100; otherwise deferred.
S3 contractual Creator/Affiliate Appendix 2: monthly Fees distributed 60 days after month end; invoice automatically generated 30 days after month end; Fees paid in USD.
Both formulations must survive. No synthetic payout schedule is authorized.
Direct bank transfer is established as a current public statement in S1, but a universal exhaustive payment-method list is NOT_ESTABLISHED.
USD is contractually established in S3 for Creator/Affiliate fees. A universal multi-currency list is NOT_ESTABLISHED.
No separate universal hold-period proposition is established from the documented payment timing.
Promotional and channel restrictions
Not a blanket prohibition. Preserve the qualified treatment.
Unrestricted email marketing is not established.
Spam remains prohibited. Partner disclosure required.
Incentivized traffic structures are separately restricted under S3.
S1 uses broad public prohibition language; S3 provides the more qualified legal treatment. Classification: resolved by source authority / qualification.
Terms and restrictions
Controlling legal source for the Proton Partner Program and its Affiliate Partner category.
Bounded by the documented notice mechanism. Not reducible to "Proton may change terms without notice".
Do not generalize post-termination or accrued-fee rights beyond the exact contractual provisions retained in S3.
Network / Platform Relationship
S5 establishes that Proton uses a password-protected third-party Partner Portal provided by TUNE, Inc. Relationship existence is verified for third-party Partner Portal infrastructure. affiliation_type is not established: the evidence does not establish DIRECT_HOSTED, REDISTRIBUTED or PARTNER_MANAGED. No TUNE exclusivity is established. Generic TUNE capabilities must not be inherited. TUNE is not established as defining Proton commission economics or legal governance.
Important context
Material boundaries preserved from the canonical factual record.
Institutional boundaries
- Affiliate Partner is represented within the broader Proton Partner Program contractual architecture. Public marketing uses Proton Partners Program / affiliate terminology; the controlling legal architecture defines Affiliate Partner as a Partner category within the Proton Partner Program.
- Proton AG is the Program operator/contracting entity for the retained Partner evidence.
- TUNE, Inc. supplies the third-party Partner Portal infrastructure. Generic TUNE capabilities must not be inherited into Proton-specific findings.
Product list tension
- Current public S1 affiliate-facing product list: Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, Lumo.
- Contractual S3 Appendix 2 service list: Mail, Pass, Drive, VPN, Duo, Unlimited.
- The two lists must remain separately visible. Do not delete Lumo merely because S3 does not list it. Do not delete Duo/Unlimited merely because S1 does not list them. No explanation for the difference is established.
Recurring commission boundaries
Qualifying renewal commissions exist at product/plan/transaction level, subject to contractual payout-event limits: 1-month plans — maximum 24 consecutive monthly payout events; 12-month plans — maximum 3 consecutive 12-month renewal payout events; 24-month plans — maximum 2 consecutive 24-month renewal payout events. "Lifetime recurring" and "unlimited recurring" are prohibited.
Payment contradiction
S1 public FAQ states direct bank transfer on the 30th of the following calendar month when the amount exceeds USD 100; otherwise deferred. S3 contractual Appendix 2 states monthly Fees distributed 60 days after month end, with invoice automatically generated 30 days after month end, and Fees paid in USD. Both formulations must remain visible. No synthetic schedule is authorized.
Tracking and attribution
Partner link and Partner ID mechanics are established. Cookie duration, cookie type, cross-device tracking, SubID, postback, server-to-server tracking and Affiliate API remain not established. Portal cookies documented in S5 concern Portal/account operation and must not be represented as Affiliate referral cookies. Attribution preserves the documented Partner ID / Referral Link mechanism and is not normalized into FIRST CLICK, LAST CLICK or MULTI-TOUCH.
Referral Program boundary
The consumer Proton Referral Program is institutionally and economically distinct from the Affiliate Partner category. Consumer referral rewards are issued as Proton credits ($20 qualifying referral credit, $1,000 referrer cap, non-cash / non-refundable). Consumer Referral Program rewards, eligibility, tracking and limits must never be inherited into the Affiliate Program canonical record.
